Kanna Extract Co. Review (2026): The Most Specific Label in Kanna

Start with what the label actually commits to. Most kanna extracts quote a ratio like 50:1 or 100:1, which describes how much plant went in, not how much alkaloid came out. LIFT skips that and states the output: a minimum of 5% total alkaloids by weight, described explicitly as a floor that every lot must clear rather than an average across lots. On a one gram jar that is at least 50mg of actual Sceletium alkaloids, and 40mg of that is mesembrine.

That ratio is 80% mesembrine, 15% mesembrenone, 5% delta-7-mesembrenone, the lowest delta-7 share in the range. Mesembrine is the alkaloid associated with the bright, outward, talkative end of kanna, so LIFT reads as a daytime product. It is a useful reference point precisely because it is the extreme: once you know how 80% mesembrine sits with you, BLISS at 65% and REST at 50% become predictable rather than a gamble.

The mechanism underneath is the same dual action Harvey et al. (2011) documented for kanna generally, serotonin reuptake inhibition alongside PDE4 inhibition, with mesembrine driving the serotonin transporter side and mesembrenone weighted toward PDE4. A brand that publishes the split is effectively telling you which side of that mechanism it has leaned the product toward, which is a more honest claim than most marketing manages.

Practical notes from the page: a serving is 25mg, roughly two micro scoops, onset around 30 minutes, duration two to three hours. It does not accumulate, so there is no loading period and no reason to take it daily unless you want to. The company also states that in a 5% extract the remaining 95% is mannitol, an inert sugar used to stabilize the alkaloids. That is a disclosure most brands would simply leave out, and we would rather see it.

High potency kanna is usually where disclosure collapses. Concentrates get sold as 100x or 200x, numbers that describe an extraction ratio and guarantee nothing about what is in the jar. LIFT XR is the counterexample: 16% total alkaloids stated as a minimum, 150mg of mesembrine per gram, assayed by HPLC per lot with the certificate published on the page.

What the math does not do is make it a beginner product, and the brand says so directly: start with LIFT at 5%, find your serving there, and move across once you know how kanna sits with you. A 25mg serving of XR carries roughly 4mg of total alkaloid against 1.25mg in the standard powders, and the recommended starting point is about 10mg. At that scale a micro scoop is no longer good enough. This is a milligram scale product.

The serotonergic caution scales with the dose, too. Kanna's alkaloids inhibit serotonin reuptake, so the interaction rule that applies to every kanna applies here with less margin for error, not more. Anyone taking an SSRI, SNRI, MAOI, tricyclic, lithium, triptan, tramadol, dextromethorphan, St John's Wort or 5-HTP should not be experimenting with a concentrate without talking to the prescribing clinician first.

If you only ever read total alkaloid percentages, LIFT and REST look like the same product at the same price. They are not. REST carries 25% delta-7-mesembrenone against LIFT's 5%, five times the share of the alkaloid most associated with the settled, sedating end of kanna's range, with mesembrine dropped to 50%. That is the whole design, and it is only visible because the brand publishes the split.

Worth being straight about the evidence here: the alkaloid to effect mapping the brand describes is consistent with how kanna's constituents are generally characterized in the literature, but there is no clinical trial comparing a high delta-7 extract against a high mesembrine one in humans. Treat it as a well reasoned formulation rationale supported by mechanism, not as a proven outcome. Kanna also does not accumulate, so nightly use is a preference rather than a requirement.

One honest gap: at the time of writing, REST's page publishes its profile and serving figures but not a batch certificate, where LIFT, BLISS and LIFT XR each publish one. Same testing program by the brand's account, but the document is not on the page, and we grade on what is published.

Most kanna capsules print a blend weight and nothing else. No named extract, no alkaloid figures, nothing you could use to compare one against another. The Dailies invert that: the capsule states which extract it contains, at what dose, and therefore at what ratio. PLAY is 25mg of LIFT, so 80% mesembrine, plus a 625mg blend of rhodiola, theobromine from cacao, and organic Hericium erinaceus, all chosen to push in the same bright direction as the extract rather than against it.

Per milligram of alkaloid the gap is the same multiple: roughly $2.00 per mg against $0.80 from the powders. There are five formulas, each built on one of the extracts, PLAY and FOCUS on LIFT, RELAX and DESIRE on BLISS, DREAM on REST. Note that the certificate situation follows the parent extract, so the LIFT and BLISS based capsules show a published certificate and DREAM, built on REST, does not.

The blend ingredients are disclosed by name and quantity rather than hidden in a proprietary matrix, which is consistent with the rest of the brand's approach. Whether rhodiola and theobromine add much on top of the kanna is a fair question, and not one anyone has tested in this combination.
